SPMVIEW PPM for R&D
One platform from idea to scale-up. Stage gates, technology readiness, verification and the project plan for technology development teams, from the first idea to the scale-up decision.
Built for how technology is really developed.
R&D portfolios run on slides and spreadsheets: gate decisions in slide decks and email, TRL in status reports, the plan in a desktop scheduling tool, test logs in Excel and the IP list in another spreadsheet. Before every gate someone reassembles the evidence by hand, and the readiness level reported to management is hard to trace to the tests and reviews behind it. SPMVIEW PPM for R&D brings that work into one platform. Ideas, gate reviews, TRL and MRL, requirements and tests, deliverables, IP and the project schedule live in one place, linked to each other, so a gate decision rests on its evidence and moves the plan when it is made.
Gates on evidence
Each gate review holds its criteria, deliverables and test records, and the decision with who made it.
Traceable readiness
TRL and MRL change only when a Go on a gate review is approved.
One live plan
Owners update their own activities; percent complete, SPI and the S-curve follow.
One thread through the project lifecycle.
| Stage | What the platform covers |
|---|---|
| Ideate | Ideas and proposals with scoring, estimates and approval workflows; funding scenarios against the technology fund; an approved idea becomes a project. |
| Plan | A stage-gate schedule with gate milestones, activity owners, budgeted hours, baselines and the critical path; objectives and the TRL roadmap. |
| Develop | Owned activities in My Tasks, timesheets with approvals, design changes, technical deliverables and documents, labs and test rigs as equipment. |
| Verify | Technical requirements traced to test procedures, test plans and test records; non-conformances raised during prototyping and testing. |
| Decide | Gate reviews decided Go, Kill, Hold or Recycle; TRL and MRL set by the decision; an IP register from invention disclosure to granted patent. |
What sets it apart.
Stage-gate reviews
One review per project per gate: a criteria checklist, evidence, and a decision approved by the Gate Reviewer.
TRL roadmap
Projects over time with their gates, the TRL reached at each and the target, grouped by technology area.
Schedule progress
Percent complete weighted by budgeted hours, SPI and an S-curve against the baseline, with weekly cut-offs.
Verification & testing
Requirements traced to test procedures, plans and records; non-conformances tracked to closure.
IP register
Invention disclosures to granted patents: inventors, jurisdictions, filing dates and the next deadline.
Funding scenarios
What-if scenarios across programs and technology areas against the fund, with rate cards and cost plans.
From the plan to the S-curve.
Progress comes from the plan itself. Each schedule activity has an owner and budgeted hours; as owners update their activities, the project's percent complete is weighted by those hours, compared with the baseline to give SPI, and drawn as an S-curve at each weekly cut-off. Gate milestones sit in the same schedule, so a Go on a gate review completes its milestone and the plan recomputes.

Readiness is decided at the gate, not in a status report. Each gate review carries its criteria, linked deliverables and test evidence; when a Go is approved, the project's TRL and MRL move to the levels assessed. The TRL roadmap shows every project's gates, the TRL reached at each and what comes next.

What changes for each team.
| Team | What they get |
|---|---|
| R&D directors | One view of the portfolio by TRL, gate and technology area: what is funded and what is next for a decision. |
| Gate reviewers | The criteria, evidence and deliverables for each gate in one review, decided and approved from My Tasks. |
| Research leads | A stage-gate schedule with owned activities, timesheets, progress and SPI, without a separate plan file. |
| Test & quality engineers | Requirements traced to test procedures and records; non-conformances raised from the test bench. |

SharePoint
A document library syncs deliverable revisions; content approval sets review and release, and return codes can be recorded here.
AI
An MCP server lets AI assistants work with platform data under each user's own access, plus an in-app assistant.
EPC programs
The same platform runs EPC programs, so a pilot's scale-up can carry on as a plant's EPC program with P6 schedules, work packaging and earned progress.
Governance
Roles per program, including R&D roles such as Gate Reviewer, workflows with approval rules, an audit trail of every change, and each customer's data in its own database schema.
